Temp File Cleaner v4.0
Our goal in creating the new version of Temp File Cleaner was to create a cleaner that is more advanced than anything else on the market. To accomplish our goal, we had many brain storming meetings where we discussed what we wanted to see in our new version. The first thing that you will notice with the new version is the refined user interface. You can have the most incredible piece of software, but if you have an unintuitive, cluttered and boring user interface, it simply cannot be used to its full potential. Our team put much thought into creating a very simple, elegant front end that is easy to use, beautiful to look at, and laid out in a logical, seamless way.
The changes that we made are more than skin deep, the core software has been completely rewritten. We have big plans for TFC and what we had was not dynamic enough to support the level of customization and dynamic nature that we are so excited to develop. The features that we will be releasing are not available in any other cleaner and we are confident that we are going to make a splash.
After much consideration, we decided to develop v4.0 entirely in Microsoft's .NET framework, rather than Java as we had previously been using. For our purposes, .NET offered more tools that we needed to reach our goals. While we love Java's open source culture, we came to the conclusion that .NET's Windows Presentation Foundation was the best user interface framework to allow us to unleash our creative ideas and publish them into reality.
As stated on our homepage, we are a small company dedicated to creating the best software. We are passionate about our products and can't wait to release features iteratively and frequently. While some cleaners consider new 'cleaners' features, we do not. As such, TFC was designed as a plugin-style application, allowing you to download more 'cleaners' without having to go through the whole installation process.
We hope you enjoy our product as much as we enjoyed creating it. As always, we appreciate all comments and suggestions as you are ultimately the reason we create software.
Welcome to the future of clean!

I’ve been using this for years. Had 4.0 installed, and suddenly it stopped working. It would load and allow me to select various options, but when I tried to run the program, nothing happened. So I uninstalled and loaded v 4.0.1. Same thing happens. Help please!

Hi there! Make sure that your primary hard drive is selected in the drive selection tab, and that the desired cleaning options are selected in the cleaners tab. If you are still having problems, please contact us directly for support.

Program repeatedly crashes when choosing the option “Select which drives will be cleaned” on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC. Gives error message “Temp File Cleaner has stopped working.”

Hi there! This bug should now be fixed in the 4.0.1 release. Please give this new version a try, and let us know if you run into additional problems.

.NET v4 (part 2)
I understand .NET suits your needs best, but did it have to be v4?
v4 needs to be installed in all Win versions, while older ones where included in all but XP. It’s strange having to install uneeded software to use tfc, sort of defeats it’s purpose. Even stranger, a new version of a cross-platform tool, running at a fraction of systems than before.

George, we appreciate that TFC has been a quintessential tool in your quiver and we hope that it will remain in there -- particularly version 4.x+. The .NET framework is, on a very high level, the exact same thing as Java’s Virtual Machine. Using either framework would result in users downloading a framework (unless it is already installed, of course). When we discuss future products, we determine which frameworks and languages would best suit the application that we have in mind. Yes, we have limited the operating systems that TFC is compatible with -- however, there are cross-platform, open source .NET frameworks (such as Mono) that will allow execution of .NET apps on Linux and MacOS (with some limitations). As far as using 4.0 rather than 3.0 etc, we will always use the most current, most cutting edge frameworks when we develop our applications.

.NET v4 (part 1)
tfc has been a weapon in my pc cleaning arsenal since when I first discovered it. I use it after a clean Win install, then after Win finishes all updates, then after I finish installing needed drivers and programs, and then, once a day for maintenance! Its an excelent tool.
But I’m actually writing to complain a bit.(to be continued, reached limit)

Very fast. Crashes, Can’t change drives
Very happy with the speed of the program, does what is intended. However, there are a few gripes. 1) The program uses Mebibytes as its unit of measurement. Until Microsoft or Apple starts using it… 2) The program crashes with “Temp File Cleaner has stopped working” when trying to access “Select which drives will be cleaned”. win7h.p.64bit

You bring up an interesting point about Mebibytes. We chose to use the Mebibyte (MiB) style notation because this is the official standard unit. This unit is well defined, and is not ambiguous. 1 MiB = 2^20 bytes. Many programs still use the old (and confusing) megabyte (MB). The problem with the megabyte is that historically it has been used to represent a number of different units, so it is unclear.
The Temp File Cleaner uses the label MiB, but this is actually the same unit that is used by Microsoft Windows for file sizes. Windows just happens to be using the more ambiguous MB label when representing the same value. Rest assured, the file sizes reported in TFC will directly correspond to the saved space that you see in Windows. There is an excellent wikipedia article on this topic.
We have had very few crashes reported so far, and we will look into this reported crash immediately.
